Residential
Apartments and Condominiums
Residential units, common areas, property offices, surveillance, access control, and building systems.

Apartments, condominiums, dormitories, hotels, senior living communities, and mixed-use properties rely on connected systems for surveillance, access control, entertainment, resident services, guest experiences, communications, and building operations.
Whether a property is being newly built, expanded, renovated, or modernized, the network infrastructure behind those systems should be planned with bandwidth, power, uplinks, visibility, and deployment flexibility in mind.
Connected buildings depend on the infrastructure behind them.
Infrastructure planning may span residential areas, shared spaces, network closets, parking structures, outdoor locations, service areas, and remote equipment.

Architecture Overview
This architecture supports properties where connected devices primarily use 1GbE or PoE+, while 10GbE fiber links carry traffic between the core, distribution, and access switching layers.
Layer 3 switching for aggregation, routing, centralized services, and property infrastructure. Applicable models also provide PoE+ for connected devices.
Layer 3 switching with 10GbE connectivity for buildings, floors, wings, equipment rooms, and network closets. Applicable models also provide PoE+.
Layer 3 Lite features with 10GbE SFP+ uplinks and 1GbE or PoE+ device connections on applicable models. DGS-1530 adds physical stacking; DGS-1250 provides managed access without physical stacking.
Apartments, condominiums, dormitories, hotels, senior living communities, mixed-use properties, and other environments with distributed access locations.
How the Architecture Connects
The switching layers use 10GbE fiber links, while compatible cameras, wireless access points, phones, intercoms, access-control systems, and other property devices connect through 1GbE and PoE+ ports on applicable switch models.
The centralized core or aggregation layer connects to distribution switching through compatible 10GbE SFP+ fiber links.
Distribution switching extends 10GbE connectivity to either DGS-1530 or DGS-1250 access switching. The two access families are alternatives rather than required serial layers.
The access switches use 10GbE SFP+ uplinks toward distribution and provide 1GbE or PoE+ connections for compatible property devices.
Each access switch can combine traffic from many connected devices. A 10GbE uplink provides additional capacity to carry aggregated camera, wireless access point, phone, access-control, intercom, and other device traffic toward the distribution and core layers.

Cellular and Industrial Edge Connectivity
Bring 5G or 4G service to outdoor parking, EV charging, surveillance, signage, kiosks, and other systems beyond the main building network. Wired Gigabit LAN and PoE+ connections can then link and power devices at the remote site.
Outdoor Property Architecture
In this example, a cellular gateway brings 5G or 4G service to an outdoor parking area. Wired Ethernet and PoE connections then support EV charging, surveillance cameras, and guest connectivity, while traffic returns to the property router, NVR, and control room.
Cellular Backhaul
Reach the Outdoor SiteA 5G or 4G gateway brings the WAN connection to the parking or EV charging area when extending the building's wired service is not the preferred approach.
DIS-210G Series Switching
Connect the Devices at the Outdoor SiteIn this topology, a PoE model connects locally powered EV charging equipment while providing data and power to compatible surveillance cameras and an access point. Non-PoE models are available when all connected equipment has local power.
Property Network Integration
Bring Operations Back to the BuildingNetwork traffic can return to the router, NVR, control room, and other systems used to manage the property.
Flexible Edge Applications
Support More Than One Use CaseThe same architecture can support signage, gates, kiosks, smart lockers, meters, and other systems across the property.
Recommended Cellular Platforms
Select the model based on the cellular performance, LAN connection, PoE requirements, and remote management capabilities needed at the site.

Plan the Complete Deployment
Compare additional cellular gateways, industrial switches, transceivers, management options, and deployment guides in the Resources section.
More MDU Edge Applications
The same approach can extend connectivity to EV charging, digital signage, surveillance, parking and access control, smart lockers, kiosks, and utility areas throughout the property.
D-ECS requires an applicable paid device license. Cellular service requires an active carrier plan and depends on supported bands, network availability, signal strength, antenna placement, local conditions, and configuration. Carrier certification, supported features, interfaces, and regional availability vary by model. Confirm current product documentation before final selection. For outdoor installations, place the cellular gateway and industrial switch in suitable weather-rated enclosures with the required power, grounding, surge protection, and environmental protection.
